What is the #1 thing that prosperous people do? Network!
How do they Network? By following the Golden Rule.
It’s been said so many ways since the beginning of time, What you put out in life you get back. Many successful people do this automatically. If you’re not one of those people, consider the following “10 Tactics for Giving”. The very first tactic is my favorite and what I think we can all strive for.
Become known as the referral source!
You will know you have successfully integrated this into your daily life when the people in your sphere of influence come to you and ask ‘who do you know’ when they need a product or service.
So how does one become known as the referral source? It’s not as difficult as you may think. Consider the following and keep in mind that it’s all about giving. You can’t go wrong. Happy Networking!
Tactics for Giving

· Participate in Social Media
· Talk/Ask Question
· Meet new people/Network
· Do “One on Ones” w/ Power Partners & Strategic Partners
· Teach a class & Speak to groups
· In most interactions, connect with sincerity, stories & humor
Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, speaks of networking in his book Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose.
“If you are able to figure out how to be truly interested in someone you meet, with the goal of building up a friendship instead of trying to get something out of that person, the funny thing is that almost always, something happens later down the line that ends up benefiting either your business or yourself personally.
I don’t really know why this happens or why it works, for example, maybe your friend’s sisters neighbor was just hired as the VP of a company that you’ve been trying to get in touch with, or maybe someone you met 2 years ago now has a new tennis partner who would be the perfect person for that job opening you’ve been trying to fill for the past 6 months.
So my advice is to stop trying to ‘network’… instead just try to build up the number and depth of your friendships, where the friendship itself is its own reward. I wound up writing about how I applied this strategy to business in Ivanka Trump’s book The Trump Card: Playing to Win in work and Life.”

It seems like the goal is to walk around and find people to trade business cards with, with the hope of meeting someone who can help you out in business and in exchange you help that person out somehow. Instead, I really prefer to focus on just building relationships and getting to know people as just people, regardless of their position in the business world. I believe that there’s something interesting about anyone and everyone –you just have to figure out what that something is.”
